The position will be responsible to the Planning Manager for engineering related tasks associated with system planning, design, and construction of distribution, transmission and substation facilities.
â€¢ Bachelorâ€™s of Science in Electrical Engineering and five to ten years of practical equivalent experience required.
â€¢ Professional Engineer (PE) designation desired.
â€¢ Requires valid Colorado driverâ€™s license with satisfactory driving record within Association standards.
â€¢ Proficient with Windmil and Aspen Engineering Analysis software.
â€¢ Proficient with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint.
â€¢ Proficient with general office equipment.
Prepares various system studies including, but not limited to, sectionalizing studies, power factor studies, construction work plans, long-range plans, load balancing studies, interconnection studies and reliability studies.
Calculates voltage drop on existing and future distribution facilities.
Coordinates system protection to maintain system reliability. Maintains and verifies system protection design and relay settings where necessary.
Assists in review and development of compliance reports for state, regional and federal government regulations including FERC, NERC, WECC, WAPA and CPUC.
Verifies that system improvement designs have switching capabilities.
Provides assistance to the Operations Department in regard to sectionalizing and system problems.
Assists in the collection and analysis of data from reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs to plan and design projects
Performs engineering and inspections for new construction, conversions and system improvement projects. Prepares engineering and staking documents which include drawings, calculations and outlines of required work, including a list of materials needed to complete the projects.
Responsible for review and planning of substation engineering projects.
May occasionally oversee the work performed by lower level engineer, but does not typically possess supervisory responsibilities.
Maintains financial control of projects
Required to return to work in connection with call-outs and emergency situations when directed to do so by supervisor.

Problem Solving/Freedom to Act
Problems are complex and occasionally unique. Methods and procedures are loosely defined and may be unrelated to the work. Work is highly varied. Tasks may be unrelated.
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
None: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).
