Washington, D.C. Youth Tour
High school juniors and seniors are invited to apply for participation in IREA’s Washington, D.C., Youth Tour.
Three students will be selected to participate next summer in the weeklong tour of our nation’s capital. All travel, lodging and meals will be covered, so selected students will need additional money only if they wish to purchase souvenirs.
The tour is planned for June 13-20, 2019, and begins with IREA’s three youth representatives and fellow student representatives from other Colorado co-ops learning about the electric cooperative model as they tour both Tri-State Generation and Transmission in Westminster and the State Capitol in Denver. They then will travel to Washington, D.C. to join more than 1,800 youth representatives from throughout the U.S. and visit prominent D.C. landmarks such as Arlington National Cemetery, Smithsonian Institution museums and historic monuments and memorials. The youth representatives also will meet with elected officials and learn more about the modern role of electric cooperatives, which now serve more than 42 million U.S. residents in 47 states.
Applicants must complete this application and:
• Submit either a written essay or original video describing their hobbies, extracurricular activities, volunteer work and what they hope to gain from participating in this tour;
• Be a junior or senior in high school as of the 2018/2019 academic year;
• Be 16, 17 or 18 years of age as of Jan. 1, 2019;
• And have a parent or legal guardian who is an IREA customer.
Applications are due no later than Jan. 11, 2019.
